Freaking out over: The Pierrepont Hicks Backseat Blanket

on Tuesday, March 27, 2012

I have never felt so strongly about something as banal as a blanket in my life. It is somehow complete perfection- the gradient orange stripes on a dreamy blue backdrop- I LOVE YOU, PERSON WHO MADE THAT DECISION. Best part? 100% Minnesota made! $150.

You know what, guys? Sometimes, when things are a little crazy, you just have to let loose and OWN THE CRAZY, like this amazing human being.

We are in the midst of World Water Week and I wanted to take this opportunity to lay some knowledge out there- 4,000 children die every day from not having access to clean water. Worldwide, 900 million people lack access to clean water. This means poor nutrition, high risk of illness and even children risking their lives in wartorn countries to travel long distances to simply get what we don't think twice about.  World Water Day was yesterday, March 22, but don't worry- there is still time to make a difference. You can join in UNICEF's Tap Project, wherein participating restaurants simply ask for a $1 donation for the tap water you would normally get for free. No time to delay- the Tap Project ends on the 25th. Good thing it's the weekend you know you are heading out on the town tonight ;)
Feeling lazy?
Just text "TAP" to UNICEF (864233) to make a $10.00 donation. Still not convinced? Click here for some nice lookin infographics on the true reach of this issue.
Live in my neighborhood? Look below the photo for a list of the participating Tap Project restaurants within a 50 mile radius of Minneapolis.

Local spotlight: Rebecca "Trixie" Esser

on Thursday, March 22, 2012

Full Disclosure: Trixie is one of my dearest friends but I think I can still be unbiased when I say that she is truly one of Minneapolis' most talented rising stars. She has done hair for tons of events from fashion shows to the Soap Factory Haunted Basement and is the only person I'll let touch this mop on top of my head. Not only is she known for her hair talents but her beautiful ink and was just featured in this month's issue of Tattoo Magazine! Looking for a fresh look? Set up an appointment with her at the brand new Grand Ave location of Moxie. Feeling gutsy? Ask her to make you look like some kind of vixenous Disney character like she did for me a year ago:

Freaking out over: Mad Men for Estée Lauder

on Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Shake. Stir. Seduce. The Mad Men Collection for Estée Lauder. YES, PLEASE. I was a little disappointed when the Mad Men for Banana Republic collection came out last year- it just wasn't the retro glory I was hoping for, but my hope is again restored with this new Mad Men collab. The only have two offerings, but they are pretty exciting ones! One Lipstick ($25) in Cherry and a Creme Rouge ($40-that's blush, ya'll) in Evening Rose. I might have to buy them both for their pretty packaging alone! Get yours in time for the Mad Men season premiere this Sunday 9/8c on AMC. (BTW- if you have cable, and want to have me over to watch it I would gladly accept the invite).

Thought of the day: Happy as a bird.

Happy as a bird with a french fry....or happy as an Angie with a french fry. Either way- pretty dang happy.  This is too cute.

Style Me: DIY Braided Bracelet

on Tuesday, March 20, 2012

My good friend Meghan invited me over for some {incredibly delish} orange tempeh and a little craft time-something we always have fun doing together. We took a crack at the Honestly...WTF DIY Braided Bead Bracelets and I have to say I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out! It was tricky to keep the braids as tight as they are in the tutorial but I actually don't mind the looser look. I am thinking of using thicker string and brighter beads in round two for a bolder statement. Have you attempted any fun DIYs lately?

quiet/LOUD: Minneapolis Edition

on Monday, March 19, 2012

1. Minneapolis when it's warm is the greatest place on the planet
2. Minneapolis musicians are ridiculously talented.
3. Have I mentioned how warm it's been?

An older one, but a great one, especially when you have California on the brain.

LOUD // Howler - Back of Your Neck
* Talented dudes / too bad that they don't respect their killer hometown and the great musicians that come from it.

Color Me: springy.

Picnics. Portland. Fun. and my good friend Summer. We are all so surprised by our early spring in Minneapolis that I had to use a picture from the spring I spent in Portland. Happy picnic-ing everyone!

Freaking out over: The Belle and the Beau Ties & Shoe Clips

on Friday, March 9, 2012

I was stumbling around Pinterest when I found something that might actually make my man and I even cuter than we already are (modest, I know). The Belle and the Beau makes INCREDIBLE bowties and ties--  nothing new, I know, but guess what else? Shoe clips (or "shoe pretties" as they call them) for the girls. Ties run about $24-$36 and shoe clips about $20-$32. HOLY SMOKES. Tim Gunn would call it "too matchy-matchy" but I don't even care, it's too fantastic...I apologize if by the time you get to this site everything is sold out...because we bought it all.

Freaking Out Over: Aqua Spring 2012

on Wednesday, March 7, 2012

I stopped by one of my favorite outlets, Optiz, on the way to Trader Joe's yesterday and picked up a pretty fantastic gray dress with a super cute triangle pattern made by Aqua.  I hopped on the interwebs to try to find a nice photo of it for you all when I stumbled across their Spring Look Book. I have been having a hard time getting into colorblocking- not that I don't love it, it just doesn't really fit into my personal aesthetic easily --until now! I just love all of this-its bright, simple but stands out, and best of all- totally wearable. Check out the entire collection at Bloomingdale's.

Local Spotlight: SnowGRADE

on Monday, March 5, 2012

I'm a little behind on this but I finally had time to make a quick post about NorthernGRADE- the winter version of the much loved NorthernGRADE menswear, American-made, pop-up event here in Minneapolis. I had a great time and got my man a very awesome gift which I will post after I give it to him. I was tickled to hear about local shop, Black Blue, which I somehow did not know about! My man and I will definitely be stopping over there when he gets back from Scandinavia. All of my photos (most of which didn't turn out, unfortunately) can be seen over on my Flickr. Stay tuned for NorthernGRADE, September 15th and 16th.  But for now, just a few favorites-

quiet/quieter: 3/5/2012

I'm back from a fantastic trip to Portland and despite being sick the entire time I had a ton of fun. But, seeing as I am still very sick, I am more in the mood for quiet/quieter today- no LOUD needed, thank you very much.
